I started to paint what I hoped would become a playful take on an "Unholy Trinity" – you, Anita Lane, and Ned Kelly – with the idea of exploring the notion of "Hands up. Who wants to die?" But that didn't work out as planned! It turned more into a "Who the fuck shot Bambi?" kind of painting.

What could I possibly want to say about Anita, Ned, and Nick? I don’t know any of you. I can assume much, but what good is speculation when talking about real people? There is so much noise everywhere about people who are completely inconsequential to our well-being, and yet so many of us look at what they wear, how they do not seem to age, how much money they make, what they say about each other, and who they sleep with.

My husband is watching Justice League next to me. What a mess we made of our stories. What a mess have we made of our cultural figures, our icons, our gods, and our understanding of humanity?

And as if that wasn’t enough, ! I just read an article that discussed how high the suicide rate is for young musicians. I’m glad you made it, Nick. Really glad!

Much faith, much hope and please no carnage to the young.
